Baton Rouge’s Best Standards/Jazz/Blues

In 2012, Nick Abraham’s father Tommy was still singing and bringing down the house at age 86. IMG_3932At Mr. Tommy’s prompting, Dr. Nick decided to form a new band with a “standards/jazz” sound and the songs he and his father loved. This tight-knit group became the Nick Abraham Xperience. The Xperience is actually four bands in one – you may hear Dr. Nick solo or with a quartet, sextet or even now a full orchestra, newly formed in 2014!

The Nick Abraham Band has performed at a variety of local venues including Roux House, Bin 77, Hotel Indigo, Lava Cantina, and Renaissance Hotel. Nick Abraham and his band are available for private bookings such as wedding parties, anniversary parties, gala events and much more!

Dr. Nick’s love of music is unparalleled and from all those who have heard him, he is considered one of the “great charismatic singers of Baton Rouge”. Spoken of as a true entertainer and a crowd galvanizer, those who have heard him and his tightly knit jazz band, know that they are in for a unique treat with each performance.

His phrasing and emotion comes out with each tone, whether he is swinging to Stormy Monday, swaying to I’ve Got the World on a String or swooning to Misty – songs he loves to sing. And he’ll add his special spin to Happy Birthday for you.

Abraham is quick to admit that his music and sound is not for every venue and that his niche is a party that wants to “swing and sway”, turning the clock back to the classic standards and romantic moonlight love songs of the 30’s and 40’s. He yearns to sing love songs such as When I Fall in Love, Skylark, I’m In the Mood for Love, With These Hands and Time After Time.

And the crowd yearns to hear them, mesmerized by his mellow, smooth and genuinely felt tenor voice.

Dr. Nick composed and recorded Angel of God, a “Catholic jazz” CD based on the scriptures. The CD and score have sold over 10,000 copies to date. He is currently arranging a new CD with a “jazz/standards” sound.

Self-taught at both guitar and piano, Dr. Nick’s primary instrument has always been his voice. He will gladly tell you that the voice is his favorite instrument, second only to the saxophone.
